Stuck? Write to us.

Audio Capture is made by one developer, and support email is read by that same person. We reply to every message — usually within one business day.

Tell us your macOS version, the app you're trying to record, and what happens instead. That's usually enough to solve it in one reply.

We reply in English.

Quick start

  1. Open Audio Capture. Running apps that can produce sound appear under Apps.
  2. Select a source: one app, All System Audio, your Microphone, or several together.
  3. Check the folder next to Save to. Press Change to pick a different one.
  4. Press the red button to start, press it again to stop.
  5. The finished file appears at the bottom of the window — play it, share it, or open it in Finder.

Recording Zoom, Spotify or a browser tab

Start the app you want to record and make sure it's actually playing sound — an app that has never produced audio in this session may not appear in the list yet.

In Audio Capture, find that app under Apps and select it. Only the selected sources are recorded, so notifications from other apps stay out of the file.

If you want the far side of a call and your own voice, select the conferencing app and your Microphone together. Each gets its own volume slider.

Prefer not to pick apps individually? Choose All System Audio and everything your Mac plays goes into one recording.

The app is asking for permissions — which, and why?

macOS requires explicit consent before any app can capture sound. The first time you start a recording, the system shows its standard permission prompt. Allow it, or macOS will hand the app silence.

If a microphone source is selected, macOS also asks for microphone access separately.

Denied it by mistake? Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the relevant permission in the list, and switch Audio Capture on. Quit and reopen the app afterwards.

Where recordings are saved, and how to change the folder

The current destination is shown next to Save to in the main window. By default that's your Downloads folder.

Press Change and pick any folder you have write access to — Desktop, a project folder, an external drive. The choice is remembered for future recordings.

The most recent file is listed at the bottom of the window. The folder icon next to it reveals the file in Finder.

The recording is silent or too quiet

Check that a source was actually selected before you pressed record. With nothing selected, there's nothing to capture.

Check that the source app was playing during the take. If you selected an app before it made any sound, reselect it once audio is running.

Check the per-source volume slider — if it was pulled down, that source will be faint in the file.

Check recording permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. When permission is missing, macOS delivers silence rather than an error.

If you recorded a microphone, confirm the right input device is selected in System Settings → Sound → Input, and that it isn't muted.

Still silent? Email us with your macOS version and the app you were recording, and we'll work it out.

Some content won't record

Certain streaming services mark their audio as protected. macOS itself blocks capture of that audio, and no app on the Mac App Store can work around it — Audio Capture included.

This is a platform restriction, not a bug in the app, and we can't remove it.

Managing or cancelling your subscription

Subscriptions are billed by Apple through your Apple Account, so they're cancelled on Apple's side rather than in our app.

Open System Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Manage, or the App Store app → your account picture → Subscriptions. Select Audio Capture, then cancel or switch plan.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, otherwise Apple bills the next one. You keep access until the period runs out.

Cancelling during a free trial stops it before any charge, and you keep the trial until it expires.

Apple's instructions for cancelling a subscription

Restoring a purchase on a new Mac

Sign in to the same Apple Account you subscribed with, open Audio Capture, and use Restore Purchases in the app's settings.

If the subscription still doesn't appear, confirm in System Settings → Media & Purchases that the subscription is active and on that same Apple Account. Family Sharing purchases must be enabled for sharing to carry over.

If it's active but not restoring, email us — include the Apple Account email you subscribed with.

Refunds

All payments go to Apple, which means refunds are issued by Apple and we can't process them ourselves.

Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account you subscribed with.

Tell us why, too. If something in the app failed you, we'd rather fix it than let the next person hit it.

Request a refund from Apple

Reporting a bug or asking for a feature

Email is the fastest route. A short description of what you expected, what happened, your macOS version and your Mac model covers almost everything we'd need to ask.

Feature requests are read and kept. Several things in the app exist because a user asked for them.

Still need a hand?

Every email is answered by the developer of the app, not a queue.
