Privacy Policy

This policy covers the macOS app Audio Capture, Sound Recorder and the website audiocapture.app. It does not cover other apps by the same developer, which have their own policies.
The short version
- Your recordings stay on your Mac. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- There is no account. We never ask for your name, email or password to use the app.
- We cannot see your files, your microphone input, or what you record.
- Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details.
Your recordings
Audio Capture records audio locally on your Mac and writes the resulting file directly to the folder you selected in the app. Nothing is streamed, copied or backed up to any server we control.
The app has no upload feature, no cloud storage and no sync. We have no technical means of accessing your recordings, and we never receive them.
Information we do not collect
- The contents of your recordings, or any audio at all
- Your microphone or system audio streams
- File names, folder paths or the contents of your disk
- Your name, postal address or phone number
- Your payment card details
Purchases and subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the Mac App Store. Apple processes the payment, stores your billing details and handles renewals and cancellations. We never see or store your payment information.
The app receives from Apple only a receipt confirming whether a subscription is currently valid, so it knows which features to unlock.
Permissions the app asks for
macOS requires your explicit consent before any app can capture audio. Audio Capture requests audio recording permission, and — only if you select a microphone as a source — microphone permission.
These permissions are granted to your Mac, not to us. They let the app capture audio locally so it can write your file. You can withdraw them at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
This website
audiocapture.app is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no advertising or tracking scripts, and does not attempt to identify you.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard request data — IP address, browser user agent, requested page — in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse. We do not build profiles from it.
Anonymous usage data
So we can see which parts of the app get used and where it fails, Audio Capture sends anonymous product analytics to Mixpanel, Inc., which processes them on our behalf. An event records an action — a recording started, a screen opened — together with the app and macOS version, an approximate region, and whether a subscription is active. Events are tied to a random identifier for the installation, never to your identity. We do not sell them and we do not use them for advertising.
Separately, if you have opted in to sharing analytics with app developers in macOS, Apple may send us anonymised crash reports. That is controlled by you, in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
Data retention
Anonymous analytics events are retained by Mixpanel for as long as they remain useful for product decisions, and no longer than 24 months. Because these events are not linked to an identifiable person, we cannot single out and delete an individual user's history.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the EU and the UK, and the CCPA in California — you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data a company holds about you, and to object to its processing.
In practice we hold almost nothing about you: no account, no contact details unless you email us, and analytics that are not tied to your identity. If you write to us, we keep that email correspondence so we can follow up, and we will delete it on request.

Children
Audio Capture is rated 4+ and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the current version is always published here.
